Auf Wiedersehen

That’s a wrap on Germany for now, I am eager to return and visit with friends that I made during my time there and to come back with a better grasp on the language.

If I had to sum up my time in Europe, “complex” would be one way to describe it. With a landscape and people as diverse as the United States, there was a lot to take in; so I’ll go over some brief things I noticed in different places.

Germany & Barcelona

Where is the Asprin?? Why does their Spanish sound different?

Germany, off the bat, impressed me with the sheer number of community gardens that I saw! There is no such thing as an over-the-counter pain killer (common in the USA and Mexico), there are Kabob shops all over the place, public transportation is top notch, and you are allowed to drink alcohol in the streets. Seriously, between the trains, subways, buses, and E-Scooters I could easily get wherever I wanted. Also, thanks to Google Maps, figuring out how to get there was a breeze!

In Spain, I visited Barcelona. Catalonians seemed to be very proud of their culture and the people that make their world. I say, all the power to them. It was interesting to hear and see the differences between the Spanish and Catalonian languages. After leaving Spain, all I wanted to do was eat Tapas throughout the day. However, back in Germany, the standard “3 square meals” replaced the romantic Tapas. For those who do not know, Tapas are small dishes in Spain that may fill your appetite just a bit. On their own, they are not full meals but are great when you want something to top off your energy for the day.

The Alpine majesty of Austria and Switzerland was definitely a highlight for me.

Starting off in Innsbruck, Austria, I got to snowboard some of the steepest mountains that I had ever been on. The ski resort Schlick 2000 was home to a 2.1km run that was an absolute treat to ride! I want to experience more long downhill slopes. Finally, Switzerland had some charm. I thought it quite funny that the Swiss Frank and the European Euro had (maybe always will have) a 1:1 conversion. I’m still not sure how or why somebody in one part of the world would have to work twice as hard to acquire the same amount of “wealth”. Economics, and social sciences as a whole, are… interesting.
